Pictures of Gaza

By Reem Salahi

I have been getting a lot of requests for photos.  Some of these pictures are rather disturbing. I’m going to send the pics in increments since the internet is slower here. w/peace.

mohammad-shurrab

Mohammad Shurrab shows the pictures of his two dead sons. Israeli soldiers executed Kassab, 28, with 5 bullets across the chest. Ibrahim bled to death from a bullet wound in his thigh. Israeli soldiers did not provide Ibrahim any medical treatment and denied any ambulances from coming to his aid and he died 12 hours after being shot. Mohammad Shurrab watched both his sons die.

Israeli missiles flattened the American School in Gaza. Prior to Israel's destruction of the school it was attacked twice by “religious fundamentalist groups,” the same groups that Israel purports to eliminate. Ironically, it took Israeli missiles, and not religious fundamentalists, to eliminate the best school in all of Gaza. As Director of the American School, Ribhi Salem, stated, "Israel wants us to live in the dark ages...where all we do is wait in line for gas and bread."

With the backdrop of mounds of rubble and tents was another man, praying, on a piece of tarp. While the Israelis had taken away everything else of his, they did not take away his God, and to this, he bowed his head in gratitude.

Born in 1945, Sabha Yousef Mohammad Abed had lived through the first Nakba but had lost her husband and her farm in the second. As Sabha spoke about Israel's recent offensive, she shook in anger. “Tell me where are the militants,” she kept asking. “Are these children militants?”

I sincerely thank you for these pictures.

  2. Was this the same story that was featured on DN! a couple of weeks ago? It was truly a tragic story.

  3. RE: the first picture.

  4. When I see pictures of people able to remember and thank God even when everything else is gone, I feel like I have done nothing in my life. They are living through real torture real hell, and we do nothing but complain. Thank you for the reminder. The least we could all do is come together and pray that God protect the innocent. That would be the least. Thank you again.

  5. What can I say.. We must all continue to do whatever we can to help the people of Gaza.
